Summary

In July 2023, a resident of Ulster County, New York reported a series of highly unusual events inside their home. After two brief earlier glimpses of what appeared to be part of a person visible beyond the normal interior space, the witness later claimed that a jagged, ring-like opening suddenly formed in the living room, seemingly replacing part of the wall or surrounding space. Through the opening, the witness said they saw a surprised man and, behind him, an unfamiliar interior containing a raised level, metal railing and several people working at computers. The opening then disappeared. MUFON investigated the report and later classified Case 134791 as “Unknown.”

Additional Notes

According to the witness, the experience was preceded by two brief incidents during a roughly two-week period. While standing in the bedroom and looking toward the living room, the witness twice saw what seemed to be a person’s left shoulder with an unfamiliar background behind it. Each appearance lasted only a moment. Three or four days after the second brief event, the witness was standing in the living room when a much larger anomaly reportedly appeared. The witness compared its formation to fabric being stretched and torn from the center, producing an irregular circular opening. The normal view of that side of the room was said to disappear behind it. Inside the opening stood a man whom the witness described as approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall, with brown hair, dark trousers and a shirt with short black sleeves. According to the account, the man looked equally startled and exclaimed that the experiment had apparently worked. Behind him, the witness reported seeing what resembled a second-floor or raised work area with a silver-colored railing. Several other people were visible with their backs turned, apparently working at computers or equipment. The scene was described as an ordinary-looking technological environment rather than a spacecraft or obviously extraterrestrial location. That detail is what makes the case so unusual: the witness did not describe monsters, aliens or a fantastic landscape, but apparently ordinary people who themselves seemed surprised by the connection. MUFON later selected the report as a “Case of the Week” and published it in November 2025, more than two years after the alleged event. The organization listed the investigative disposition as “Unknown.” The publicly available MUFON article contains the witness narrative but provides little information about what investigative steps were carried out or what alternative explanations were considered before the case received that disposition. “Unknown” therefore means that MUFON did not assign a conventional identification within its investigation; it does not by itself establish that a physical portal occurred.
