Summary
On 25 January 2024, a U.S. military operator reported observing an unidentified aerial object over the Mediterranean near Greece. The object was described as round or diamond-shaped, with a straight, non-maneuvering probe or tail extending from its lower section. According to the mission report, it travelled at approximately 434 knots and remained on a steady westward flight path while changing altitude. Remarkably, the object was reportedly visible only through a short-wave infrared sensor and could not be reacquired when the operator switched to the visible spectrum. The case was later released by AARO and remains unresolved.
Additional Notes
The event occurred at approximately 05:09 Zulu on 25 January 2024. A U.S. military platform operating in the Mediterranean detected a single unidentified object while in transit. The accompanying mission report described the object as a “round diamond shape” with a straight, non-maneuvering probe extending beneath it. The observer estimated the object’s speed at approximately 434 knots, roughly 499 mph. Its altitude was estimated at around Flight Level 200, and it maintained a generally steady westward trajectory while reportedly increasing and decreasing altitude. The report states that the object did not react to observation or engagement. One of the most unusual aspects of the event was its visibility. The operator reported that the object appeared only on the Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) sensor. During the released video, the sensor is switched briefly to the visible spectrum, where the object disappears from view. When the operator returns to SWIR, the object is not reacquired. The released footage lasts approximately one minute and five seconds, while the mission report states that the full event lasted about two minutes. At around 55 seconds in the video, AARO’s descriptive notes say that the observed area resembles an inverted teardrop with a vertically suspended linear mass below it. AARO explicitly cautions that this visual description should not be interpreted as an analytical conclusion about the object’s actual shape or nature. The report originated with United States Central Command and was later transferred to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office. The underlying military documentation was declassified and approved for release after review, making this case unusually well documented compared with many civilian UAP reports. Despite the estimated speed and unusual sensor behavior, the released material does not establish the object’s true size, distance or physical structure with certainty. AARO has therefore retained the case as unresolved rather than assigning it to a known aircraft, balloon or other conventional source.
The Location Today
The Greek UAP report concerns an aerial observation rather than a preserved object or landing site. The mapped location should be treated as a geographical reference unless a specific public viewpoint is documented.
